On Sunday, January 18, 2026, His Eminence Mor Dionysius John Kawak, assisted by Rev. Fr. Gabriel Alkass, celebrated the Holy Liturgy at the Virgin Mary Church in Paramus, New Jersey.
During his sermon and following an interactive session with the Sunday School children, Archbishop Kawak reflected on the Gospel of the day (John 1:43–51). He emphasized how a simple invitation can transform a life. Speaking about Philip’s encounter with Christ, His Eminence highlighted how Philip, after being called by Jesus, immediately invited his friend Nathanael with the words: “Come and see.”
Archbishop Kawak explained that although Nathanael began with doubt, his personal encounter with Christ led him to discover that the Lord already knew his heart. This realization transformed his skepticism into faith, leading to his powerful confession:
**“You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!”
His Eminence summarized the message of the Gospel by reminding the faithful that:
• Christ seeks us first
• A true encounter with Him leads us to share Him with others
• Faith grows when we realize that Jesus knows us and still loves us
He concluded by encouraging everyone to follow Philip’s example inviting others to meet Christ not through arguments, but through love and challenged the congregation to reflect:
Who in your life needs to hear today, “Come and see”?
Quoting the Psalmist, Archbishop Kawak closed with:
“Taste and see that the LORD is good.” (Psalm 34:8, NKJV)
